Ashgabat

Ashgabat is the white marble capital of independent and neutral Turkmenistan, the recognized pearl of Central Asia and the largest administrative, political, transport, trade, scientific and cultural center of the country. The city is located 25 km north of the border with Iran, in the foothills of the Kopetdag. The population of the city is just over 900,000 (13.4% of all residents of the country). The city is a vivid example of a harmonious combination of modern technologies and oriental traditions. The atmosphere of the oriental bazaars and the beauty of modern architecture attract a huge number of tourists every year.

Ashgabat is famous for its white marble buildings and grandiose monuments. In the northwestern part of the city rises the Mosque of Turkmenbashi Rukhy with a huge golden dome. This is the main mosque of Turkmenistan, the largest one-domed mosque in the world and the largest in Central Asia. It is named after Saparmurat Turkmenbashi, the founder and first president of Turkmenistan. In the city center, you can see the Ertogrulgazy Mosque, modeled after the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

The main park of the Turkmen capital is the National Independence Park. This park is one of the attractions of the city and embodies the spirit of modern Turkmenistan. The park is located on the southern outskirts of the city, next to 10th Anniversary Prosperity Avenue and Archabilsky Avenue. Its territory occupies 140 hectares, which is almost half of the entire green area of Ashgabat.

In the center of the park is the Independence Monument, a 118-meter column crowned with a crescent with five stars, symbolizing the unity of the five Turkmen tribes. The lower part of the monument is made in the form of a huge yurt, inside of which there is the Museum of Independence. Opposite the Independence Monument stands a gilded statue of the first president.

An outdoor amphitheater was built in the park for concerts and public performances. And in front of him is a huge, two-story building high, a monument to the sacred book «Rukhnama». it is the moral and philosophical work of Turkmenbashi, which every citizen of the republic must know, if not by heart, then, in any case, quite well. In the evening, the green cover of the memorial book is opened and a documentary film about the formation of the Turkmen nation is shown on the screen with the help of a projector.

In addition, there is another curious example of modern Turkmen architecture in the park — the pyramidal building of the shopping center on a pentagonal base — «Altyn Asyr». On the approaches to the building from all sides there are fountains of various types and shapes. There are cafes and shops on the first floor, and offices on the second.

One of the main symbols of Ashgabat is the Palace of Congresses and Arts «Rukhyet». Official state events, forums, meetings, meetings, congresses, inaugurations, concerts are held in the palace. The capacity of the interior premises, their technical equipment and comfort fully allow holding and covering events at the highest international level. Along with official events, concerts, exhibitions, and festive celebrations are held here. The palace is depicted on the reverse side of the banknote of 10,000 manats of the Bank of Turkmenistan of the 2000 model and 20 manats of the 2009 model. The residence of the President of Turkmenistan is located in the «Oguzhan» Palace Complex.
